I used the perl script at http://openstreetmap.gryph.de/gpxanim/ as a base, changing params to add in all 17 gpx traces, various geographic bounding box, dates, times, colours etc. You can also change the background, clock etc via the script. Then, it outputs each frame as an image and then I made the movie via ffmpeg (although you can also use mencoder or other programs)..
I may do another much slower version with some old os maps on the background.
