<description>Thank you for visiting Japan. Yes, Tokyo or Osaka have 3D complex structure as you wrote, and more complex. Have you ever seen Oogi Oohashi in north Tokyo? here is stacking 7 layers, -2 underground rail, -1 walkway-roads along the river, 0 two rivers Arakawa-river, Sumidagwa-river, 1 roads crossing and trum, 2-3 paid roads for automobile only and crossing(along the river, across the river), 4 new mono-rail is running over these structures.

Have you ever seen Shinkiba-stations in south Tokyo? here is virtically stacked stations for three rail operators, top floor is JR lines, under the JR, there is another company's Yuurakucho-line, and more another operator's station that Rinkai-line is under Yuurakucho-line.
Some cafes and fast-food shops exists on basement floor virtically. OSM map editors doesn't support multi-layered city like this... need more improvement!

btw,

&#62;&#62; I wonder how many years it will be until
&#62;&#62; normal people in the UK get the same service?

it already.
NAVITIME company is providing Global Navitime service in London for Japanese travellers. and according to recent interview(*1) they are planning to expand this service to another (world's) phones, or PNDs, at first for iPod-touch / iPhone version NAVITIME is under developping.
